  • Tomatoes - Growing Slowly?

I've been growing three type of tomatoes, all from seed, on my windowsills. All are doing well and look healthy but don't seem to be growing very quickly. They are about and inch and a half and now have 4 small leaves. Planted them around 4 weeks ago. Put them into the newly completed unheated greenhouse yesterday. Are they doing ok?

Doing better than mine, I don't have anything to show yet!

I think you're better having them grow slow and steady rather than fast and leggy.

Exactly what's happened with mine. All raced for the sky!:

I'm waiting for it to warm up just a bit so I can get them outside to slow down!

Are you leaving them in your greenhouse 24 / 7? Personally I find it's too much of a shock to take them straight outside from the house to the greenhouse at this time of year, it can still get quite cold at night and you'll slow them down even more. Your plants sound like about the same size as mine which have just been potted on to 3" pots. Don't worry though, as soon as the weather improves they'll grow like mad.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've got mine outside if it's nice during the day or in the unheated greenhouse if it's wet and windy but i still bring them into the house at night.

They sound about normal size for a month old tomato plant in the spring.

I spent Sunday afternoon potting on my tomatoes from the propogator. I now have 41 tomato plants Where on earth will I put them all? They vary in size from 1" tall to 4" tall.

I did a quick count, I have about 60 tomato plants. What the....? I get carried away, what can I say? We have a village gala the end of May, I think I'll be donating a lot of them to the plant sale.
