  • Cheap Canes?

I bought 30 8ft canes this weekend to make wigwams for my peas, etc. They were 50p each. I need quite a few more, anyone know of places that offer a better deal or is this price the going rate?

    Hi,

I go to pound stretcher/ pound land. I think the canes are 6' but 20 for £1 is good enough for me They have lots of other bits and pieces which are good value too.

Sorry it is pound land, nearest one to you is in Union st.

50p for a 8' cane is rather dear.

Our garden center sells a pack of 10 8' canes for £2.50 (25p each).

Actually, yes that sounds more like what I paid. Ignore me amanda, I'm a goldfish.

We went to Poundland on Saturday afternoon when we were rained off the gardening. The nearest one to us is about 30 miles away so we made an afternoon of it (exciting huh?). I was in the garden all day yesterday as the weather was beautiful, it's peeing down today so may go cane hunting, need a load of bricks to build a barbecue too.

We don't have Wilkinsons in Scotland, what a bummer, I get jealous when I read about their offer.

Yeah I guess i'm lucky I know a fella with a bamboo plot big enough for a panda. Gives me loads of 8' or 12' canes. I can even sell some to the allotmenteers for 10p each toward the fund. Otherwise I have always coppiced hazel for the job. The thing is it isn't really environmentally sound to import them all the way here from a raped forest in the far east wrapped in plastic eh.
