  • Am I going to regret planting out?

Hi everyone, I haven't posted here before, so apologies if this is covered somewhere else

I'm sure I read somewhere that climbing french beans are that bit tougher than runners. I think I must have put all my beans on far too early, as they're doing what it says on the packet and climbing up each other/the metal bits of the greenhouse and (until they were forcibly restrained by a rather grumpy hubby) up the trumpets on his carnivorous plants.

So do I go for it, put them in the ground and hope for the best, or has anyone got any better ideas? I've already put pea sticks in the pots to try to keep them apart, but they got to the top of those ages ago

Yes, you were a bit premature
They are tougher than runners in that they withstand heat and drought better...not cold.
You should be hardening them off now (7-10 days) and then get them planted out PDQ

I sowed mine last week, and they are 4 inches tall already. There's no need to sow them in March - April sowings will soon catch up.

Wow that was a quick reply, thanks Two Sheds

Right, plan B it will have to be. I think I'm going to have to decapitate them though, they'll have taken over the greenhouse in another 10 days!

If you decapitate climbing beans, you lose the main stem that does the climbing! When planted out, train them up a cane/string and cut off (stop) the stem when it reaches the top.
