  • Climbing Courgettes

Hi, has anyone out there tried growing courgettes up a climbing frame rather than across the ground. We went to the organic gardens at Ryton last year and they had just planted courgettes at the base of a frame. This seemed a good idea to me as they would take less room and the fruit would be off the ground, but would they be too heavy. Any comments.

My neighbour is planning on doing this in her garden as she is short of space. She couldn't find the particular variety in any of the garden centres and seed suppliers and doesn't use a PC so I ordered them from Thompson & Morgan. The variety is Black Forest. They're half price at the moment on their website, unfortunately I ordered them the day before the sale started. Doh!

    Here's the one....

I believe that old bras are often hung from such constructions in order to support the hanging fruit. Esp popular with melons.
