  • Mayan Gold Potatoes

Has any body grown Mayan Gold Potatoes i bought some of these in February from Tesco's to try and low and behold they was good nice taste roasted or boiled so i thought i will grow some of them bought some more and sorted out some for seed .
Put them in a tray to chit and thought these are a bit slow chiting planted them on the 29th march .
All my others have come up but no Mayan Gold i had a fertle today and they are the same as when i planted them still as hard as the day i planted them but no chit's .
Is it worth leaving them in the ground or is that it i know all about chit suppression spray to stop them chitting but i think these was dipped in the stuff jacob

I had the same idea jacob but I have mine chitting on the greenhouse bench. No sign of any chitting though and half of them have rotted!

Boys, I got some Mayan Gold seed pots from T&M and they've chitted beautifully. I wildy over estimated the room I'd have to plant spuds this year, so if either or both of you would care to PM me your address, I'd be delighted to get rid of a few!

same here, got mine from sainsburys, after nearly five weeks chitting and only the slightest green buds appearing they went in the ground, every other type that went in rooster, romanesco and international kidney, going great guns. Mayan gold - nothing, will have a fertle tomorrow but really after reading this thread am not expecting anything

                  Mayan Gold

I got some of these seed spuds from AlanRomans.com along with some highland reds and salad blues.

They all went into high quality medium in mail sacks (as I do every year) at the same time and the Mayan Gold is way, way ahead of the blues and reds.

The Mayan Gold has grown a good 12 inches and been earthed up whereas the reds and blues are 4-6 inches.

I didn't pay much attention to earlies or maincrops, I tend to rely on the plants to say when they are ready, but the Mayans are definitely ahead of all the other crops. Of course my position in the Country may have something to do with this.
