im sure i read somewhere that you should not plant different types of sweetcorn together due to cross pollination. Cant remember if it was just for largecobs with small baby corns or warning not to mix varieties. This is a 'just in case' scenario as it looks as though Ive not got germination on all the seeds I sowed (swift) and I was thinking of adding a few plugs, which may or may not be same variety .

Does anyone have experience of this?

It's only if you want to save the seeds. I row several types all close together and they are fine.

The main thing is to plant them in a block so that they pollenate each other; or you get cobs with missing kernels.

I know you should be careful with supersweet varieties because their sweetness can be "contaminated" by other types.

        Ditto nerobot.

Advice from DK Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening is to "grow supersweet cultivars at least 8m (25ft) from other types oavoid cross pollination. It doesn't say anything about mixing different 'normal' varieties!

when it's big enough to eat?
or do you mean pull up the plant once it's finished cropping?
