  • Happy Beans!

Well, as a novice this may seem very obvious to you all but I planted a load of broad beans a while back & I had 4 runts, miles behind the others & about 25mm high. I had what I thought was a brainwave and placed old jam jars over each of the poor things. Result! Sudden improved growth in caribean micro climate. I'm now thinking that I must be careful not to shock them when I remove the jars the firdt night but it's had remarkable results so I'm delighted. Anyone done this before?

    Regards, M

Haven't done it with a jam jar.
To ease them in gently, you could cut the bottom of a clear 2 litre bottle (plastic pop bottle or water bottle, that sort of thing) and replace the jam jar with the bottle. To begin with you can put the lid on at night so as to keep it a little warmer, until the plant hardens up? My pop bottle cloches have the lids off permanently though.
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
