  • Overrun with garlic!

Hmm, I got a bit carried away with planting garlic. I think it was the first thing I planted and every clove I planted has come up strongly. I only have limited space to grow things and the garlic is taking up probably a third of it! Oops.

Do you think they would survive being dug up and put into pots without being killed them off ? Then I can try and donate/offload them!

    Hi.
I move my onions, shallots and garlic around all the time [well, not ALL the time but when I change my mind about which bed is having which crop].

As long as you collect all the deep roots, they should be fine.

Oh you lucky devil! We didn't get our plot until it was too late to plant garlic - so we won't have any at all

      I'm very jealous!

Garlic don't like their roots disturb but honestly, I moved my garlic before and they do fine in their new space. Try to dig as much root as you can this way you will give it minimum disturbance. You can also use the garlic sping for cooking (in omelet, fried rice, fried noodles...as soup garnish).
          I grow, I pick, I eat ...

I've dug up a couple this morning to see how they fare - if these do OK, I will dig up most of the rest! thanks

Thank you so much for the kind offer - unfortunately we're in Malvern and I'm not sure OH would agree to a trip to Bristol for garlic... He's on a bit of an economy drive what with the price of petrol these days!
