    Hi

I am hoping you can all help me - i sat here trying to plan my class veg plot it is only about 2msquared - if that. What would peopel reccommend we have? We have some tomatoes, radish and courgette grown from seed. We are going to do potatoes in old tyres (Recycle) and the courgettes in a grow bag but what do people reccocmend we put on our small plot that we will see produce from before we break up in July? Oh yes we have some peas and radishes as well.

Also we are thinking ahead to autumn and we woul like to do squash and pumpkin which we are planting today - but we may only have room for one of each. do we need to have two of each.

I apologise if these are very silly questions!!

    Thank you

    Sue

Lettuce or salad leaves, like rocket would grow fast in your little plot.

I don't think you need 2 for polination, but maye keep one back in case of any accidents? Then you can plug the hole again and the children will be none the wiser. (keep in a pot at home maybe - old washing up bowl or the like)

What about Dwarf French Beans? You can plant them quite closely together, and they support each other.

Runner beans are a pretty plant and grow quickly. Spring onions are another, broad beans put in now should be ok and beetroot. Good luck.

Rainbow chard, looks lovely and grow pretty fast, should be ready by july. Certain cucumber are early maturing type such as lemon cuke or marketmore 76 or parisian pickling (around 60 days each). You can always go for some herbs too such as basil, coriander, chinese celery...
As for winter squash, they are ok grown single vine but better with 2 vines as it will guarantee better and more flowers productions and will lead to succesful pollination. Choose the compact vine ones such as the Zappalitto group (Golden nugget, redondo tronto verde) or the hubbrard (such as red kuri, blue kuri...) or even the buttercup (bush buttercup,kabocha...).
          Good luck.

              Hiya Sue

Hope the seeds arrive ok! Posted them on Tuesday, sorry for the delay!!

I am talking to my Headteacher and trying to get her to let me have a veggie patch, fingers crossed, once she has tasted my offerings from home!!

I am using lots of pots to grow at home - why not do a wish list and ask parents to donate some compost, pots etc, and then less on your budget! Take some pics and let us see how it is going.
