  • Fried Cauliflower Plants

Checked over the seedlings in the raised veg beds this morning and they were looking great (were planted out 3 days ago). Checked them this afternoon and the cauliflowers were totally fried - the leaves had curled to nothing and all but disappeared. Onions, beetroot and brocolli seem to have been spared.

Do they have any chance of recovery or will I have to start again from scratch?

Wait and see, how big were they when transplanted, and did you water them in and firm them well? When I transplant mine I do what my grandad did (puddle them in). Dig a hole, drop the plant in, fill the hole with water, wait till it drains, fill with water again, let it drain and then go round and firm them in. With the lovely sunshine, they may have appreciated a bit of green netting for shade.

It sounds like they were too small when you planted them out, and they succumbed to drought - bigger plants with a stronger root system would cope better.
