Hi, I'm new to allotmenteering. I will be digging up my early spud this week and will have a 6ft by 5ft patch of soil. Anyone have any good ideas as to how I can use this space over the rest of the year. Thanks Ian.
I followed spuds with japanese onions and garlic last year - but this meant i couldn't grow 'proper' onions this year as the bed was (is) full already.
I'm in the same situation and like the sound of leek plants. We planted our seeds very late and they haven't germinated anyway (most things were planted late as it was taking so long to clear the weeds from our new allotment).
Any tips on where to find leek plants this time of year - had a look at a few online retailers but no joy yet...
you can buy the backs of green manure seeds by thompson and morgan. i got them from the garden center but one packet whilst feeling quite full doesn't cover a large area. Its about 2.89 a packet.
The best place I know for green manure is Edwin Tuckers. They have a big selection and the prices start at £1.30 up to £1.80. Some packets cover up to 50 square metres some 20 square metres. www.edwintucker.com
