free compost for calderdale residents...

not sure how many of you live in calderdale but the council are giving away compost this saturday in todmorden...

all our homemade compost has gone into our new raised beds but we'll be going along for some for our new greenhouse borders.

The best on offer in these parts is from the local privately run, but on behalf of the council, recycling centre. All the garden waste that is taken there is composted. This they then try to sell back to the public at £3.00 for a thirty litre bag. They must be joking.

Go grab the free stuff while it's available.

It's free all year round in Swansea, and there's always loads of it - just turn up to the recycling centre with bags/buckets/trailers and a spade - we avoided having to order a tonne of topsoil by going there instead. Only disadvantage is weed seeds, but it's fun to see it steaming as you shovel it into bags and feel the heat from it in the winter :-)

you could try doing a search on your council's website... that was how i stumbled across the info about calderdale's give away.
