  • Growing toms from the ground

I am the new owner of a beautifull greenhouse :-) can I plant toms straight into the ground?

the advantage of a greenhouse is that you can do anything you want, I started growing in growbags, then one year tried planting direct into the soil, this year i have made mini raised beds down each side. it really is your choice, there is a guy on our site that grows everything in his g/h in buckets. whatever you choose, it will be an improvement on growing outside.

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but just position them such that you'll be able to put up tall supports for them (assuming you're growing as cordons). One year I put them too far back and had to string them at a very odd angle

I grow them in the border soil but I change it every couple of years - prevents build-up of soil-borne diseases etc.

We do the same as Flum - cos we're copy cats! We grow aubs & peppers in the g/h border too and I think you really see the difference in plant size/crop with them.
