  • Telegraph Improved Cucumbers

    Hi

Has anyone grown this variety? Never tried it before, sown a couple of plants to find out it has to be pollinated. Please could anyone tell me how to do this as not really sure how to identify the correct flowers etc.

    Help

We have always grown this variety.
We usally grow just 2 plants in an unheated (but south facing) greenhouse.

If you leave the male flowers on then the cucumbers will taste bitter so you have to remove the male flowers.

We don't have any photos on our site of this (will take some this year) but the female flowers will have a thicker stem directly behind them. This will eventually swell to form the cucumber.

You will (with a bit of practise) be able to tell the difference between a male and female flower quite easially.

Forgot to say... I believe the female flower will produce a cucumber regardless as to whether or not it is pollinated. But a fertile cucumber will taste bitter so remove any male flowers as soon as possible.

          Growing Cucumber Telegraph

          Hello

I have been given 2 good plants by my allotment neighbour. Never cultivated these. How do I grow and support the plants outdoors on my plot?

          Simon
