  • Which plants do snails reallly like?

I have planted cougette seedlings this week, and today sweetcorn. I already have strawberries down. So far I have been covering them with lemonade bottles as cloches, mainly to protect against the snails which were rampant last year. They are not so numerous this year, I think because I have removed the easy hiding places (was a lot of work). Anyway, which plants should I be concentrating on protecting, or do they just go for anything green?

Also, I planted peas last week and have noticed birds in the general area. Do they pick in the soil to get them?

    Thanks
    Tracy

i thought snails liked anything - actually found two mating snails on my strawberries - guess what, they werent mating when i got hold of them, in fact they arent doing anything anymore!!

I would protect them all, as the pests arent that fussy!

Which plants do snails really like? It would be quicker to list those they don't eat.

Slugs and snails will always go for your favourite plants, or the ones you didn't have time to protect.

What we always forget is that weeds have adapted perfectly to the conditions ... including pests ... that's why they grow faster than our plants

Slugs will eat most veg, but will usually go for the most suculent i.e. seedlings or high water content i.e. courgettes marrows tomatoes lettuce. Don't seem to bother to much with onion family.

they love radish ... my whole row has little bites out of each one. Or perhaps they hate them, but have a 2 second memory. "I'll eat this... yuk. I'll try this next one ... yuk. Maybe the next one will be nice ... yuk"
