Yes, and so do beetles unfortunately. In most places I wouldn't waste the beer...possibly alongside a crop of brassicas. In general, if you've got a clean veg patch with nowhere for snails to hide you can then put out a dustbin lid/plant pots or similar and you will find all the snails hiding under that/them. Or drink the beer and have a wander round with a torch and a bucket of brine on a damp evening...you can collect up thousands.
Just keep the lip of the trap about 2cm above the ground level and it should keep the beetles out, alternatively you can put a twig in the pot to help them climb out if they fall in.

today is my empty the beer trap day and i have counted 8 snails in three traps, i am using a very yeasty beer, and they love it ha ha !! i do the garden run at night as well with the torch and gloves and a bucket of salty water, no one is getting past me!! i dare them to!
