Protecting plants from cold

I see we have a few cold nights ahead and am thinking about protecting my plants that are outside, but am a bit unsure what to do!

I have some potatoes in a large container, but they are still about halfway down. Do I just cover the top of the container with fleece, or should I "tuck them in"?!

I also have some peas - I take it I just wrap the fleece around the plants a few times?

I also have some tomatoes, peppers and aubergines in a small polycarbonate mini greenhouse thing! Will these need protected or will they be ok in there? Do I need to wrap them with fleece inside or could I just wrap the outside of the box?

And what about my strawberries??

Hi ya

I think your strawberries will be fine, i had mine out in the snow and they loved it, as all flowering and ready to fruit.

I have fleeced my runners, i just wrapped the fleece around the base of the wigwam, trying to get as far us as possible and leaving the ground around covered as much as poss, so i would do this with your peas.

I dont know about the pots, as I am not growing any , yet! but i would move the toms inside, but surely they are going to be fine because i think it is more of a ground frost and they will be off the floor.

I am sure a more experienced grape will be along soon.

How cold do you mean? Unless we actually get a frost your plants should be fine - no need for extra protection.

We had a white frost here this morning!Luckily my allotment is in a sheltered position and my tatties weren't blackened! I've earthed them up to cover the majority of leaves!

Peas don't need any protection mine have been outside since end Jan without any protection and I should be picking peas in about two weeks time. Any tender stuff may need protection, like toms, chillies and peppers. Potatoes will be fine with just a bit of fleece draped over them. Same with strawberries, although it isn't the plants that are at risk but the flowers.

Having lost a bay tree some years ago I now.
Make some cuttings through the year and over winter in the green house.
The big bay in a large pot can't really fit in the GH so I ..
1) Wrap all the stem and branches in fleece.
2) Wrap the pot with bubble wrap.

Fingers crossed.
I wouldn't like to spend the night outside with a bit of fleece and bubble wrap!
