  • Beefsteak Tomato "Marmande"

My newbie neighbour has bought two beefsteak tomato plants and the flowers look like dandelion flowers - is this normal??

She is canadian, and when she grew them over there, the flowers didn't look like that.

Is there something wrong with the plants?

    Many thanks,

    Jennifer

So does that mean that my neighbour has to remove the flower, or can she just leave it?

The very first flowers that appear on my marmandes ( grown from seed ) are usually as you describe. The toms develop but are often misshapen.
I remove these flowers and all the other seem to be normal - giving excellent toms.

Thank you very much - my neighbour was worried, so when I went round to see her about some seeds she wanted, she asked me and I had no idea, I only grow cherry tomatoes ( and this year, a plum tomato variety).

          Thanks,

          Jennifer
