  • Hello and can anyone help me identify this plant?

Hello, I've just joined this site having lurked around for a while.

I really just got interested in gardening a couple of years ago and have experimented with various veg but this is the first year we've gone all out and planted all sorts both outdoors and in the greenhouse. We've got our name down for an allotment too but there's at least a 2 year waiting list.

I also wondered if anyone could help me identify this chilli plant please. I got some suposed Anaheim chilli seeds from Gardeners World mag and only one of them germinated. However it has now grown to about a foot tall and looks like no chilli plant I have ever come across! It has long pale silvery green leaves and is starting to get tiny red buds on it. I've got some pics which I'm going to try and upload, but please bear with me whilst I try to do this.

What do the leaves smell like when they are rubbed?

      You're right, it isn't a chilli plant.

Thanks for the replies, I've just been to have a sniff of the leaves but I'm so bunged up with hayfever that I can't smell a thing, lol.

Trust me to grow a weed, I'd just love to know how it got in to the packet.

I'm with lavanderblue on this - definitely a weed, I'm growing them myself!

It could be that the chili seed didn't germinate, but another seed in the compost did.

Thanks for all the replies, I can't stop laughing. My husband was so proud of his "chilli" plant, lol.

I'm going to keep growing it out of interest and see what happens when it flowers, good for a laugh if nothing else!

In my first year of gardening I happily cultivated a very fast growing strawberry. i was quite proud as I had lifted the original alpine strawb from a garden in a stately home the winter before; it was lying on the ground and i pilfered it and grew the seeds on.

After a few weeks we got a but suspicious and one day it dawned on me that I was feeling very proud and taking very good care of a wonderful nettle.

Hmm. We laugh about it now. I was quite upset for a while tho'.
