If your outdoor tomatoes are in good soil and in a sunny sheltered spot, I would be inclined to leave them to their own devices, within reason. If you are supporting them with canes, let them get to the top and then stop them, however many trusses there are.

Sub Arctic should be bushy so don't touch it. Leave the sideshoots and let it do its own thing.

Theoretically, you could allow more trusses to form in a greenhouse as there should be a longer season and thus a longer ripening time, but I find that the limit is simply the height of the canes or the roof, and it's always different.

So, use your own judgement - don't stick to a hard and fast rule.

I'm restricting mine to 3 trusses outdoors. I've got lots of plants and I think they will ripen sooner. I don't usually restrict them at all in the greenhouse, though I always intend to stop them at 5 or 6.

For outdoors toms I think it depends on how good a summer we have. If its going to be a good one with a warm back end then maybe no more than five. Long range for this year is fairly wet like last year so I guess 3 to 4. Play it by ear. If the summer is on the coolish side I have sometimes tried to help things by erecting a polythene wind break to keep them a bitt warmer. you can always make green chutney or try to rippen the late ones and use for cooking.
Life is like a toilet roll - the nearer you get to the end, the faster it seems to go!
