  • My poor tomato plants... :(

3 for the price of 2 in Sainsbury's they were. £1.29 each(Gardeners delight). but on the way home they got damaged none of the main stems are damaged, just a couple of the leaves. will they survive? will the leaves grow back?

also, if i plant them up. will 3 fit in one grow-bag?

Well so long as it's not the growing tip that's broken off- they'll be fine!

If you plant 3 in a growbag- why not put a second one underneath( cutting away the plastic between both bags- it'll stay more moist and you'll get more root growth! ...Now I've said that we'll have another cool/wet summer!!!

erm...i *think* that bit's ok. (is that the bit right in the centre with all the tiny leaves coming out of it??....

don't have 2, not even got 1 yet. money's tight and not sure where they're cheapest. but that's a good idea...and then sink some little bottles in to water into, you think? do this kind of mato need staking?...(can you tell i've not done this before???)

                    Toms.

When you get your grow bag, roll it around on the floor a few times to break up the compost and make it nice and fluffy.

Don't cut out little holes for planting before you do this. (friend did recently)

Your Marto's will need stalking, sort this out before planting as not to disturb them once they are in. And talk nicely to them every day.

CityGirl, where's the big new Homebase???!!!! What am I missing out on?!

Have you tried LBS Garden Warehouse yet? They are the biz for pots, I go at least once a month If you go to Colne, but turn off left where it's sign-posted for Trawden (just before the mini-roundabout) it's down at the bottom of the hill. You could get 3 big (really big!) pots AND a big bag of compost for about a fiver there?

it's on the crossflatts roundabout, right in front of Yorkshire BS building. turn off keighley bypass at start of bingley new bypass and u-turn at the crossflatts one. or come along bradford road and turn right...complicated, but it's not easy to explain

cheers for that, might take a trip out there sometime, i love going new places

hi citygirl,1 large grow bag, roll as suggested to fluff up,get 3,free flower buckets from the big supermarkets and cut of the bottoms so you end up with a tube, place this on top of the grow bag,you now need to cut the grow bag so the tube is in contact with the compost, this will do the same as putting 2 grow bags together, only a lot cheaper, and easier, then fill the tube with compost, this will give you a deeper space for the root system, put in the tomato plant burying as much of the stem as possible, get 1 cane per plant and push into compost a few iches from the the stem so as not to stab it's roots,as the plant grows all you do is tie it to the cane, you maybe find it better to site the bag near a fence if outside, just so you can tie a bit of string from cane to fence for extra support,i hope you find this of some use to you,it is so hard until some one tells you HOW,best of luckif you find this info to much to remember, make a sketch and it will all come clear.
