  • trenches for potatoes?

Due to tearing the ligaments in my foot, I haven't got my potatoes in yet, but am determined to get them in this weekend.
Problem is, I still cannot use my foot for digging, so can't dig trenches Will it be ok to use a hand trowel and just dig holes for them?
(although I am hoping when he sees what a struggle it is, Hubby will lend a hand)

Hi, I used a bulb planter to do my spuds as I was too lazy to dig a trench. It's the first time I've tried it myself but I've been reliably informed that the man with the most immaculate plot at our allotments uses this method sucessfully too. If it's good enought for him, it's good enough for me, hope it works for you too.

I just dug individual holes per spud....all's looking good so far!
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

            Hi,
We just used a big dibber, dropped the spud in 10cm deep and covered up. This also means it's easy to earth up as it wasn't too deep intially and I just used a hoe to do that bit. Spuds going a storm (despite last Sunday's frost here). Hope the foot is on the fast mend.
