How do other grapes support tall varieties of peas? I've got a few heritage varieties which have just gone out to the plot, but the netting I've rigged up between bean poles blows about quite a lot in this windy weather. I'm sure the plants are not enjoying their new home!

My Alderman are very happy with twiggy sticks (last year's privet trimmings). If they get to the tops of the 5 footers I put in, I have taller sticks I can add. Mind you, the wonderful Dobby's gave me some heritage pea seeds that grow to 8 foot - not quite sure how I would cope with those!!Happy Gardening,

I've got one lot up some tall canes in a wigwam, tied in with string. They are half way up already. The others are climbing some of that rigid polythene netting that comes on a roll. Don't know what it's called but it works a treat.
PS your red flowered broadies are coming on fantastically Muckdiva.Last edited by Flummery; 25-05-2008, 12:32 PM.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Glad to hear that Flummery. Mine are doing good too - but they are very short compared to the 'Londonderry' heritage plants I'm growing at home. Hopefully I'll have some seed to share from those next year. All at once I hear your voice

Same as M&L use bamboo canes and string. Find that using netting can interfere with picking the pods, and as Paulottie said trying to clean the netting when the peas are finished is a nightmare. Will be picking the first peas in about a weeks time (feltham first). Also have jaguar and kelvedon wonder.
