  • too late for sweetcorn

Hi, I have just returned from a long weekend away and found my baby sweetcorn plants looking really ill -leaves going brown at the edges and just not looking very healthy. I'm wondering if I'd be better just starting again - do you know if I'm too late to sow another lot now?

I just planted a few more last week and they are just peeping up today. I'm hoping they will be OK - the packet suggests sowing in situ until the end of May.

Thanks Busylizzie, maybe I'll give it a go then. I was so much earlier planting them last year though! I guess there's nothing to lose!

There's still time to sow more - I've sown in June before and had a normal crop.

The good thing is that later sowings get a quicker start because the temperatures are higher and more even. Just don't be tempted to over-water (this could be what happened to your earlier batch).

think you could be right about the over-watering Cutecumber. Do you think I'd be best direct sowing this time around as its so late?

I sowed some in pots about this time last year and got a crop, even with the awful weather.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
