  • digging up potatoes

Hi, not sure if this is in the right place, if so apologies.

I dug up a potato today, just one and got a lovely handful of small pots. My little boy was very excited and he doesn't even like them but he has bagsied the 2 tiniest ones and said he will eat them - result!

My query is that some of them were joined together. Is this normal? I just separate them and they are fine? And we also dug up a big potato which must be the original chitted one - do we throw this away?

As you can tell I have never dug up my own spuds before so sorry for daftness!

Yes you will often find what looks like two potatoes joined. Often if they are left to grow bigger they will swell out into one potato. The big one is almost certainly the original and is discarded. Good result with the little one.
