  • chilli leaves

I have about 10 chilli and pepper plants in the greenhouse, together with the same number of tomato and a load of marigolds, oh and 3 basil pots.
About 7 or so chilli and pepper plants have somewhat distorted leaves, its the newer growth. I've checked for aphids, but can't see any, can't really see anything on them, I need to have a better look over the weekend though.

The plants seem green enough and certainly haven't been underwatered, they are in the soil and maybe tbh it was a bit wet for a while, even though I've only watered it once in the 3 weeks since they were all planted. ( I gave the soil a very good watering the day before planting the greenhouse)

The temps have been a bit all over the place, I have shade netting over 3/4 of the greenhouse and 3 vents on a 10x8 greenhouse, but still its got a bit hot sometimes and a couple of weeks ago we had that frost for 2 nights.

The ones seemingly to be better are nearer the door, which may lead me to believe that it has been too hot, but at the other end, its right next to a louve vent?

I would normally just leave them and hope they grow out of it, but any advice would be very gratefully received as this is my first year of mass chilli greenhouse growing.

I think it may be aphids, I had a better look last night and there appeared to be more than I thought, try and post a pic later.

Sounds like aphids, make up a spray - a squirt of washing up liquid (Ecover's good) in a litre hand sprayer. That should sort them! Might take a couple of goes to get them all - squish any you see, for good measure! (Careful of the leaves though)

I had this problem last year and it was indeed aphids, did a lot of squidging and used quite a lot of soap spray and eventually they were OK.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks, I sprayed with soft soap last night, got back from work late and it was a bit dark to squish by hand. Off to decrease the population by hand now

My sprayer had some seaweed solution left in it, so I just mixed the soft soap in with it, hoping that it would help the chillis a bit as well. But the soft soap doesn't seem to have worked as well as it should, not sure if its too old (about 4 years), the sprayer isn't getting a fine enough mist, or something else?

Also what threw me at the start i think, is that the aphids don't need to be on the disformed leaf for it to be disformed iyswim.
