How's your sweetcorn doing?

Outskirts of East London.....Got mine in early and have already harvested. Yummy. Was really surprised on how early they were. They had a beautiful red tassel and looked great grown native american style (3 sisters - 1m mound 10 sweetcorn in the middle with peas growing up them and buttenut running in between them - great space saver and peas add nitrogen to the soil. great). They grew to the height of 4ft and even though some of the cobs were small they were still very juicy. I wish i had grown more and staggered them a bit. Live and learn eh!...

'Normal' sweetcorn doing really well. I am also growing Minipop for the first time this year;

Has anyone else grown Minipop? I understand that you start to harvest when the tassels start to appear, as opposed to when the tassels start to die off.

Any info would be gratefully received.

I harvest mine when the tassels have gone brown. A good way to check is to pop on of seeds and if the jucie is milky white then they are ready. This method has always worked for me...

I live in the North East of England and my sweet corn is about 4ft tall with both centre and side fluffy bits. First year on an allotment so not doing bad so far.

Hi, first time grower here!
My corn is about 4 feet tall and is producing leaves! no sign of anything else just leaves. I think I planted late as only decided to be veggie grower in May! I am hoping to be much more organised next year, especially with all the helpful advice on the vine.
I live in Somerset, so lovely weather at the moment. I will just keep hoping on my corn and keep on eating my fab crop of french beans!!!

mine has decent cobs on it but i peeled back a bit to see if one was ready and now a load of tiny beetles are on it.

mines about 6' now, huge flowers, and signs of tassels - but nowhere near ready to harvest, despite heatwave.

Hi everyone! I also planted a bit late and mine are around 3 or 4 foot high with tassle type thingys at the top. Guess this is OK - need to check up though. Reckon Im a bit late this year, but with all this sunshine who knows? dexterdog

I live in NW leicestershire. I'm growing Strawberry Popcorn. The plants are about 3 feet high, but took forever to get this high. Planted them out at beginning of june when about a foot tall, sowed them in loo roll tubes to avoid damaging the roots.

Just back from holiday and have two cracking corns, with the tassels just about going brown. They obviously love being in a polytunnel There are another two corns on each plant but they are not very big. I fed the plants with tomato feed - was that ok?

I am on the London Kent border and we picked and cooked tow of our corn today.....best sweetest most tender corn I have ever tasted.

It is also ready about a month early which is strange as it was planted a month late due to us not having a spring.

Boo hoo, one of my sweetcorn plants has been casualty of the wind, I think, and has snapped off right near the bottom. There was a half-developed cob on it, would this be ok to eat like baby corn do you think? It does look pretty much like a giant baby corn but some of the kernels have started to swell into proper corn.

I harvested my first cob on Sunday evening - delicious! This is my first season so I just stuck them in to see what happened back in May - I'm smugly proud of my success

I had my first sweetcorn yesterday, this is my virgin year at growing veg. I have to say the taste of fresh sweetcorn is fantastic. Just the taste of the sweetcorn alone has made all that winter digging worthwhile!
