as I get a lot of wood ash how much can I put on my allotment and compost heap, i have three compost bins working and one i collect horse manure through out this year open to the elements.to be added to next years compost.
Woodash is good for fruit and flowers. It's potash content varies so much depending on age and type of timber and speed of burn. Don't weather the ashes as the goodness leaches. It is difficult to over apply to tomatoes or fruit bushes/trees, roses and flower boarders anywhere mine goes really. Soot is good too, but avoid any coal.
Incidentally, I always cover the muck pile to stop leaching and the crust going rock hard
