I am growing pentland javelin and charlotte potatoes in poly pots. I have already had three lots out and have about 27 large poly pots (I know I went a bit mad) my dilema is some of the foliage is now dying off - do I leave the potatoes in the soil or do I take them out to store them somehow? They seem to have produced pots much earlier than I expected even though they went in late.

New potatoes are just a potato that is great when dug up whilst small and are therefore harvested way before they are mature. Most new potatoes will turn into maincrop if left long enough.
As they are harvested early the haulms will not die back as they are still immature plants. There is no need to harvest them all now as you can leave them until you want them, they will just get bigger as time goes on.Last edited by pigletwillie; 15-07-2006, 10:05 AM.
