  • Drooping Potato Foliage

Some of my potatoes in pots have drooping stems in that they are bending over rather than standing straight. I have watered them, earthed them up but a couple of the stems have broken with the weight - is there anything I can do?

as long as they havent broken completely off they will be fine

Sounds as if they're too wet and too warm, therefore growing really soft foliage. Where are your pots?

They are all together but most of them are ok it is only a couple say 4 (out of 20) lots that have droopy stems (rather than leaves). Unfortunately a couple have broken off completely. I think they must be just a little too top heavy as they have got really good leaf growth.

You could put a couple of short canes in, then put strong string round to hold up the stems a bit? It might be a 2 man job though!

Sarzwix's suggestion souds good. I put canes in when I planted mine this year as sometimes the foliage has been really big. So far I haven't needed them - but the Roosters are getting really big !

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
