  • Gone to seed

I planted spinach and chard at the begining of March they both grew very well, and then we had heavy rain followed by a warm spell, and they have both gone mad, growing to about 3ft high and producing the beginings of flowers.
What should I do? should I dig them up and plant something else or cut them to ground level and let them re grow. I would apreciate any advice as this is my first year an an allotment grower.

They have gone to seed and won't prpduce any more leaves, so dig them up.
No point in cutting to ground level.

You should be able to eat any remaining leaves - taste them just in case, but they shouldn't be bitter.

It's a good idea to make another sowing of chard in July to take you into the autumn and winter.
