Have just been thinking about the gardeners world plant swap thing and people commenting on this site that they dont want the huge amounts of things like garlic that often on sale. I had to throw away shallot, leeks and garlic that i didnt have room to plant. Just thinking that in future i could send them to people if they wanted them. Would anyone be interested in that sort of thing? At the moment iv got too many chinese lanterns and verbena bonai-thingy(cant remember how to spell) if any one wants them. Not sure they could be posted but anyone nearby manchester can pop in for some free plants as i hate wasting things. Catriona

Good idea
Last year I gave up my allotment and had a real glut of seed potatoes, had to throw many of them away. I think we should set something up here, so we can start to swap any gluts of seeds.
Andrewo
PS I grow potatoes in bins and only need a max of six so would be happy to split a bag with anyone.Best wishes

Plant swap
Great! I love the idea! I had to throw away loads of onion sets and I hate wasting things. I also think we should set something up. I'd be happy to post any seeds/cuttings to anyone when I've got too much of something. maybe we could use this thread for offering anything we have too much of. Anyone interested in a hadful of Fortune peas?Acorn

Peas
Acorn,
May be interested, would you like some Borlotti in return? What are Fortune like? Let me know. Borlotti are beans, lovely pods, can be eaten as a runner bean or beans dried for soups, casseroles etc.

Plant swap
Andrewo,
To be honest these are the first peas I've ever grown and I'm not sure what they are like (I've only just sown them). My allotment neighbour recommended them as hardy, good for overwintering but also for spring cropping. They can be sown either in November in a sheltered position (a bit late now) or from March to June.
I'd love to try some Borlotti
I'm not sure how the private message option works here, but I'll try to send you a message through it with my address and you can send me yours.
Great! Looking forward to having my first Borlotti beans!!Acorn

usually have lots of bean /pea seeds left over , usually rare ones so seed swap I think is a good idea, saves me throwing them out.

Swapping works
Me and Acorn are hoping to swap peas for borlotti beans. I think this is an excellent idea. It's free (except for the cost of stamp) and means we can try out varieties we may never buy due to cost of seed packets. Let's save seed, save varieties and have some fun!!!

Seed and plant swap
Yes please, I would love to join in that.
I have just found out that all my saved Cherokee Trail of Tears climbing beans have gone mouldy in the garage - woe is me. I usually have lots to give away to family and friends too.
I am sure that I can find something to swop even if I have to buy some seeds.

Wonderful idea
This is great,
I was only saying to my family yesterday that we should have a seed swap at the allotments as seed is expensive and very few people need 500 carrots etc. Seed rarely keeps for the following year so why waste it.
Waiting expectantly to hear what happens here.
