  • Turnip - purple top Milan - flowering

Help ma bob. My milan turnips are trying to flower, but the turnips are only the size of a large grape. Whats going on .

I don't know the answer but my Giant Limousin turnips are also flowering - I'm guessing its to do with the weather conditions. Veggies only tend to bolt when conditions are not perfect - perhaps the early heat, followed by cool and wet - maybe the poor plants think theu are 2 years old now and should flower! I have nipped the flower stalks off the ones that are flowering, and keeping my fingers crossed. At the least, if the turnips don't form we can still use the tops as turnip greens....

Once they start to flower, the roots will never swell. Best to resow and keep will watered.

They've bolted Coachman. Due to adverse growing conditions - probably too dry. You still have time to resow.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
