Climbing beans maybe dwarves

Hi received some lovely pea and beans in swaps. They're growing away nicely, but just not up the way .

I was wondering if I could plant some beans of the climbing variety (currently residing in the greenhouse) beside the dwarf beans, it seems a pity to waste the height of the wigwams. Is this possible or is it a silly idea?

Can't see why not, although legumes are not my speciality! Try not to over-crowd them too much but surely a few more won't make a difference?

I'm think I'm going to give it a go, when the sun comes back out, it's cold today.

Has anyone grown Yard Long Beans before? I have some doing quite well in the greenhouse but need them to get outside. How are they for taste/usefulness?

Have tried them before but never done well. Have got some in my greenhouse at the moment - they were grown on inside, hardened off, then planted outside a couple of weeks ago. Had to bring them back in last weekend as they weren't happy, so I've potted them up and am going to see how they do. The ones I'm trying this year are Pole Beans, which I've read need the extra heat, so will keep them inside. Not sure if it's the same for the Yard Longs as tried to grow them outside last time - not good.

The greenhouse is like a jungle, I'm going to need a machete to get in there soon. My neighbour has offered me some large pots, looks like I'll stick them in some of those.

My other neighbour has an empty greenhouse which I have in my sights. Phwaha ha ha ha (rubs hands in an evil fashion). I've already snaffled half her garden (with her permission, honest!)

You lucky thing to have great neighbours. Mind you, can't complain, as our new neighbour has just fenced in her garden completely and in doing so has given us an extra 5 inches of garden all down one side! Have been considering what I can grow in those extra 5 inches!

Ha ha, beans and peas!!

Our neighbour Jessie has a big garden, she's 79 and widowed and just can't manage it all by herself and was getting quite depressed, bless. I planted some spuds and veg for her then offered to take over the bottom half (also known as the Dandelion Jungle). She's delighted now it's under control, I'm doing it with a friend of mine, we both wanted a lottie but non anyone near us, so we're all happy.

French beans need 9" - 12" each to grow well. Don't cram them in too close.

Tried yard long beans this year, didn't do very well and have replaced them with others. Should be alright with putting climbing beans by your dwarfs. Put them inside the canes and try to give the dwarfs as much room as possible.

I had all my beans and peas set out prettily in their trays this morning in front of the greenhouse, deciding where they were going to go. Just as I was admiring them a gust of wind came along and blew the greenhouse door off and it landed with a thud on top of them all.

Don't have to worry about where they're going now. How upset am I?

the RHS say: "yard-long beans are tender beans from the tropics, and ...are ornamental, but disappoint in cold, wet summers." That means the UK then.
