transplanting spring onions

hi all, just back from shops and couldnt resist buying a pot of spring onions. its a 4"pot with a clump of onions about 5" high. my question is do i have to transplant them singly into little holes.any advice on this please

I would just plant the whole pot and eat the thinnings as they grow.

I had a big pot of spring onions about at the same stage. I split them up into little groups of about 6/10 onions and planted them in a line. Didn't take to much care and just bunged them in, watered well and will wait and see how they respond.

i have found that they grow a little better in clumps, so I sow a few seeds in each of a few modules then transplant without separating. This approach is not so useful if you sow in a neat row, however, in which case it is preferable to sow in-situ and thin as you go.
