  • Yesterday I harvested lots of tomatoes, both Tumbling Toms and Gardener's Delight, plus a cucumber (woo! finally!), lots of potatoes, a few parsnips and about 6 apples.

Made some curried parsnip soup in the afternoon, feeling very smug, so celebrated by Domestic Goddess status with a glass of wine.

    • We had bacon and lottie cabbage (from a neighbour, not our own) on saturday (with shop bought spuds mashed), and OH's favourite starter for this dinner - a slice of hot bacon in some fresh bread with melting butter (as we had none, I was made to bake a couple of part-baked rolls for him!!). (We also had a slice each of coffee cake, which the toddler and I had made, for desert).

On Sunday, we had a lovely egg mayonnaise sambo for lunch (with red onion mixed in). MMM, lovely when it's still warm!!

And last night, we had a macaroni cheese, with leftover bacon, mushrooms, peppers, fresh green peppercorns, red onion, garlic, french beans and mangetout (everything after peppercorns we grew), as well as using the end of the bread for garlic bread (with garlic butter from the freezer from the last of last year's garlic).

Tonight, we are having the chorizo bake (again - lots of spuds to use up) and throwing some more leftover bacon chunks into that.

      • today i have harvested

harvested my pink fir potatoes, not a big crop but at least they are a nice size. Just like ginger roots.Par biled and then fried some whole tubers with salt and pepper ,fantastic
Also some beetroot pulled at golf ball size otherwise id end up with loads of them at one go,and i dont even know if i like beetroot any way.Planted them cause they were freebies and suprisingly they grew, also its September and was told to start taking them up by now, but dont know if this is right or wrong thing to do.
a good put down line to use !

Hey SlugLobber - curried parsnip soup sounds great - I'd love the recipe, please.

          • Since I last posted, more sweetcorn, french and runner beans, lots of chard (some for me, some for the guineapigs), two nice cabbages, lots of courgettes. bunches of parsley, AND TODAY 7 Butternut Squash that aren't going to get any bigger. Skins are hard and yellow - took them home, washed the mud off and now drying on the rack in the conservatory (OK - Porch).

                  • Not actually today, but Sunday (when I sprained my wrist and have since had trouble typing, never mind harvesting). Courgettes, beans (french and runner), cooking apples, sweetcorn, red cabbage, blackberries and a few raspberries.

                    • First harvest ever from the new allotment (had since July) - green beans

Had them with an omelette, complete with potatoes and spring onions (not picked today) and parsley, garlic chives and sweet pepper (all picked today). The salt, pepper and oil were the only bits we didn't produce.

                      • Yesterday i harvested over 1lb of tomatoes from the greenhouse (Gartenpearl, MoneyMaker, Gardener's Delight) and picked a good few Hot Mexican Chillis with the hope of making some Tomato & Chilli jam from Delia's website. Also 2 more courgettes and have a good load of beans (runner & french) that need picking later.

                              • I had fish steamed in milk on fennel rice with a selection of wok fried/steamed veg.
                                Tomatoes various from my greenhouse.
With purchased onions, mushrooms, bell peppers and garlic.
Can't grow onions, eel worm in soil.
Mushrooms well toadstools might come up!
Garlic, not worth the effort is so cheap in shops.
Bell peppers like Aubergines never work, chillies OK thought!

The rice is easy. 10 oz long grain rice soaked for 20 mins and drained.
Fry a teaspoon of fennel seeds so they fizz but don't burn, about 30-60 secs.
Add rice and salt to taste, dry fry hard for about 4 mins till it goes clear and sticky, must keep stirring.
Add 20 floz of water bring to boil and simmer with lid on for 10 mins. Check all liquid soak up.
Top rice with fish and pour on milk.

I find best rice by far is from a sack at the local indian shop.

                                Don't forget the veg
