I just went to the list of threads and the top two were "Tobacco growing" and "Pot growing newbie" - thought for a moment that I was in the wrong place

This thread reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer manages to produce some sort of mutant tomato / tobacco hybrid and sells it to kids as "Tomacco"... hey, at least they're eating veg, right?
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

lol ..... saying nowt other than...... i'm not growing tobacco IN a pot

actually, according to my son, you can actually graft another type of plant onto cannabis roots, and it grows with thc in ...... this was a wisdom from his chemistry tutor

I agree with greenlung.........it's quite easy to grow but it's a bit late this year to be setting the seeds away.
It's a half hardy annual and is just a 'smokeable' Nicotiana! It has lovely flowers, the smaller species of nicotiana are usually used as bedding plants!

well everything i'm growing is a bit late lol, so as i bought 100 seeds, if they don't work then i'll have to try again another time, mind you it does say they only take 12 weeks to grow, so i might get away with it, and my tropical patch gets sun (when its sunny) for a good 12 hours a day ...... like everything i'm growing, anything more than a dandelion is a bonus

growing tobacco is very easy - i've been growing it for years
the main reason people have problems are that they simply don't follow the instructions
of course, you have to buy from a good supplier with good instructions, and a supplier that doesn't make you wait 6 weeks for delivery .....

Growing your own tobacco to smoke it ???
People will be growing thier own drugs to smoke that next.

Both habbits are bad, but atleast you won't have to pay tax on those stinky, cancer causing, death sticks.

BBC - h2g2 - How To Grow Your Own Cigars

(Looks as though there may be some tax implications when growing ).

The very first line of that site says...

"There are few pleasures in life that can match that of smoking a fine Havana cigar. The cool, rich smoke and lasting flavour linked to an aroma that exudes wealth and privilege just oozes sensual indulgence."

We can think of other pleasures better than smoking a damm ciggy, some of which we won't mention .

As you can tell we are anti-smoking, but hey, each to thier own. If people want to slowly kill themselves then that's their choice.
We would rather enjoy the other, non cancer causing, pleasures in life.

Wow ! You're right. The EU (?) changed the law in 1992 :

"The grower must inform Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs of the quantities they are harvesting and they will subsequently be required to pay the appropriate duty"

Anyone fancy testing that in court ? Perhaps they already have.
There must be a lower exemption level, surely ?

Go for it Lynda and if it works, let me know and I'll have a go myself. May even be able to grow something to mix with it. Rather die of cancer having enjoyed life than spend it wrapped in a fear bubble and die of stress.

As an alternative to tobacco, you can smoke Yarrow (Achillea Milleflorium), which is rather mellow and doesnt contain as many cancer causing chemicals, tho isnt quite as satisfying as the real thing! Personally I do smoke, tho its a personal choice and I dont force my habit on anyone, Mr D rolls them for us both, as they are much fresher than packet ciggs (and cheaper too), but I do understand others preferences, but each to their own!

I remember our local vicar used to grow his own. He dried it and sent it away to be cured(I don't know what of!). He was a pipe smoker. He also brewed his own. It was strong stuff and responsible for a few hangovers.

apparently, theres no duty until you prepare it for smoking, so i figured, i'll just sell it down the pub fresh, with instructions for curing it lol

hmmmmmmmm wonder what else he was growing ...... i don't really drink alcohol, so making wine seems far too much like hard work,

but sending it away to be cured sounds good, cos by the sounds of it thats the hard bit ....... i was hoping you could dry it in the microwave like other things lol
