  • Growing Sweetcorn in pots

    Morning everyone,

Does anyone have an experience growing seetcorn in pots? My seelings are up but my garden still not ready. I have got couple of barrels which are about 4' deep and about 24" wide, my question is, how many can I plant into barrel?

I'm growing T&Ms "Xtra tender & sweet F1", which, when planted in the garden, should be spaced about 18" apart.

    Thanks in advance guys,

    norazina

I did some googling and red some article how someone sown 7 to 18" pot and had a good crop, but did not give much details apart from that

Never measured it but I am told it's off a back wheel of an old Massey Ferguson 35 I work in tractor sizes not diameter.

, that is a very "man" like answer,

but seriously, thanks, I've looked those up and wheel is about 5-5.5' wide, which gives me an idea for planting!!!

That's the trouble, I hung round with me dad more than me mum. I got loads of tyres off freecycle, including the tractor tyres, but recycling centres sell normal car ones for about 3 each.

i am growing 4 sweetcorn in a large planter (there were three in the packet!!! from homebase), they are really really growing well, i have two others in a terracotta type flower pot (not small by the way) and they were planted at the same time and not going quite as well, but they will get there.

                        Good luck with them

I grew loads last year, and although they were in beds they were spaced much closer than recommended (about 6inches between each plants in blocks). Every single plant gave at least 1 cob, many grew 2 or 3, so they can cope with less space than you'd imagine. Have tried it again this year on two beds, so hoping for a bumper crop!

                            Lol!
                            Done it again

Sort of got my answer that I wanted.

But wow! Grown in grow bags
I might just go with my original plan of the 125 ltr bag of compost.
But splitting it down the middle.
