My small freezer's always too full of my own produce to have room for frozen peas, so I just have them fresh for a few weeks of the year. Had some with mint & butter tonight - yum. (Photos from 35mm film along in a few weeks - i really must get a digi camera)

I've never yet cooked a home-grown pea, they just don't last long enough!
This year I've planted about a zillion plants in an attempt to get enough to actually have some left over to cook, so I will see how they compare then.

I've previously grown them in a large pot - about 6 plants to a pot and that gives you enough to nibble on and saves space, maybe you could try that next year?

i am defo gonna try peas next year, my kids love them out of the pod and if that keeps them eating them, then i will do anything.

I like frozen peas though and looooove mushy ones!

You can grow peas for 'mushy' peas squashysue. There are special drying peas, or what the Americans call 'soup peas' available. I've gt some from the Heritage Seed Library - called Latvian (they come from there originally) but as I only got 10 seeds I'm saving them for a decent seed crop this year. Then next year - mushies, here I come!

I also love home grown fresh peas. They don't taste the same as frozen to me. It depends on the variety you grow of course, but I've grown the semi-leafless Markana for several years, they grow about 2 ft high and fruit VERY profusely. I save the seed from year to year too. Very sweet - got a prize at the local show with them last year! (And the judges DO taste the produce.)

Peas are great, they're the only vegetable I'm sure will do well for me as I've done an experiment germinating a separate seed on kitchen towel on Sunday and it looks close-ish to sprouting allready!

So with the cooler weather and rain in the last few days my potted peas should be okay! From what you've all said I really look forward to eating mine straight from the pod

In answer to the question I've had fresh from my Grandad and when cooked I can't tell the difference, I'm sure straight from the pod I will though...
