As per your PM, here are some of the Butternut Sprinter I grew last year. They didn't all make the shape you see in the shops but they were all Butternut flavour.Good luck with your project.

I've grown Butternut Sprinter a few years now. I think they're fab. Mind you they do go rampant given half a chance (hence the word sprinter in the name I guess! )

Maybe you could add your tips Shortie. Realfood is struggling to grow Butternuts in Glasgow.

Haven't bothered with squash this year as I never seem to have much of a crop. Last year I had four plants and ended up with two squashes and they nearly took over the garden. May be I will learn something off this thread.

I suspect I'm the last person to learn from

I plant my seeds in April, water them as any other seed. Plant them our mid May straight into the soil after a little hardening off and leave them to their own devices. I don't bother with digging compost in or anything. I hardly even water them. Tough love, that's what I say

The only thing I *do* do religiously is pollenate them manually

Maybe it's a weather difference thing too?

Alice, thanks for the photo. I tried Sprinter last year but it did not sprint!
