I think it's the wrong time of year to be looking Lynda. Most places get a good stock in the spring and then when they are sold out (to the people who already have their bean and pea frames up as we speak!) they don't get more in till next season.

Get down there early next year.

Our local hardware store still has plenty of canes.

I got some in B&Q a couple of weeks ago - not particularly cheap but needed some good long ones - think they're 8' long in a pack of about a dozen.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I got a couple of packs of 6' ones in the old fashined hardware store near my office last week - would that be worth a try?

I get long pieces of wood ideal for canes from my local industrial estate where there are carpentry workshops you'll be amazed what pieces of left overs they throw out.

What is this "bus" thing of which you speak ma?

Like the online idea though - one additional benefit of that is that I won't be tempted to buy other stuff whilst wandering round the shop...
