When was the last time it waas repotted? The compost can get exhausted, so new compost will not do it any harm.

Repot it with a good meaty compost, John Innes no. 3 for instance. A multipurpose is not nutritious enough for a permanent planting. Good luck with it. Mine's in the garden in the soil. It LOVES it there!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I agree - mine was looking a bit sorry for itself a couple of years back and going yellow - I repotted it into a bigger container with fresh beefy compost and it just loved it, flowered again and really flourished.Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

If that's not an option right now, you could maybe keep it going temporarily at least by scraping off the top layer of old compost and putting some fresh on top (better still, some well rotted manure) and watering it in well. My gooseberry bush was very happy with a farmyard manure pick-me-up earlier in the season as I didn't want to repot it until after fruiting time.Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
