hi there, are you on an allotment is it for your garden? you could buy one or two strawberry plants quite cheaply and then when they start to grow runners you get more plants for free! i got some raspberry cane offshoots for free from a friend and they're growing ok
I would be growing in pots, which I've read is okay for them. Perhaps Ill try from the fruits themselves but they may be F1 varietys and unreliable, which is why I asked

dunno lol ...... i've planted allsorts from the fruit, just to see what happens, we have a stall on the market, that sells manky/ over ripe fruit for 10p a bag .... the fruit aint the best, but the seeds look ok ..... i think my melons might have worked, but then again, all the seedlings look the same to me lol
Thanks for the tips, both of you.
I think ill nip to the local GC at the weekend and have a look! For £2.50 it's gotta be worth a look!

MoreVeg sells strawberry seeds for 50 p a packet. You'd probably want to buy other seeds as well though, to make paying the postage worthwhile.
As for raspberries, I've never heard of anyone growing them from seeds but it must happen I guess! If you have an allotment, you might find another plot-holder who would donate you some canes.
Strawberries are rarely grown from seed. Most strawberry seeds available are Alpine strawberries I think.
They're usually grown from runners of previous years plants, not seed. That way, it doesn't matter if they're F1s, because the runners are clones, not F2s.
Saving seeds from market/supermarket fruit might be an interesting experiment, but it's not good advice, especially if you have limited space and don't want to risk having nothing worthwhile to show for the season.
As others have said, plants are fairly cheap. Lidl usually have them for £2.99 for 6 at the start of March. Good choice of Ostara, Elsanta, Sonata or Korona varieties.
Also local gardeners often propagate spare plants and give them away or sell them cheaply. Keep an eye out locally in Freecycle/NextDoor/FB etc, and you might get lucky.
Never heard of anyone growing Rasps from seed before.
I've grown Tulameen raspberries successfully from seed before!
