  • is there a problem with my cucumber seeds?

    Hi everyone,
i bought some cucumber seeds and planted them in a pot two weeks ago. they were showing no signs of life by today so i thought they had rotted away, so i turned out the pot (it's only small) and the cucumber seeds were still there and they looked exactly the same as when i had put them in, no sprouts or anything.

I have returned the contents back to the pot but i'm not sure if anything will come of it.

Does anyone have any advice? do cucumbers need special care? a lot of watering or something i don't know about? or do they just take ages to germinate and i'm being impatient.

feel free to message or instant message me with any ideas

    Many Thanks
    Happy Gardening!

Hi, I'm not too sure if the seed may have rotted, but you could try a plastic bottle cut in half (with a few 'air' holes) over the top of the pot and maybe keep the soil moist in a place with a lot of light.

mine haven't germinated yet either, (the ones in the garden) they've been in for about 3 weeks, think they must just take a while, the ones in the boiler cupboard haven't shown their faces yet either, and they've been in just under 2 weeks.

I think mine took a while to germinate too.
The only thing special I can remember about them is that they needed to be planted quite deep in the compost - like 2" deep or so.
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
