  • Urban Farming

Here's a little article about so-called urban farming:

Food Up Front, founded in south London in April 2007 provides starter kits for people living on housing estates who want to grow something in their front gardens, balconies, roof spaces, doorsteps or window boxes.

For £20 a year, they get compost, seeds and containers and have the support of so-called "street reps".

    What a good idea.

The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take, some knocks, some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.

What a great scheme - I love hearing about stuff like this.
We were so amazingly lucky to stumble into "community urban farming" at our local city farm, and it's been fantastic - and now my daughter's nursery have begun a GYO garden as well - I wish all families could have that opportunity, and groups like this seem to be making it happen...
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

What a great idea. I wish them every joy of it.

Thanks for the info, TwoSheds. I think I'll sign up for it. Our front garden is gravel with a token container. I've been promising my daughter that she can have it for her very own garden, but haven't got my head round what to do with it for her yet. This could be the ideal solution.

I'm green with envy - I soooo wish we had something like that in Baku. Ever since I got the "garden fever", I have been desperately trying to convert everyone around me, not much luck though...
