  • Onion Braiding

Many thanks for the braiding website found through another thread. I am on having my first attempt but am getting breathless as the onions are in the kitchen and the computer is upstairs, I keep forgetting which side needs to plait next and have to keep going up stairs. So no need for extra gym membership or subscriptions to slimming clubs. Thanks for not only helping with the onion storage but the saving will soon add up and hopefully the body measurments soon go down.

Hi jarpsdm, have you not got a printer? Much as though I don't want to spoil your new exercise routine it is easier to print the instructions off & keep them for next year as well. I had to print them off as they were too complicated for me to remember! Going to try it with some shallots I've picked.

This is probably common knowledge but the way I do my onions is:-

                1) Cut off a length of string approximately 2'-6" long
                2) Put a loop in one end and a big knot in the other
                3) Put loop over nail hammered into roof support beam of hut
                4) Put first onion on by putting stem of onion around string and under onion allowing the weight of onion to keep it in position on the knot
                5) Next onion goes on top and fastened the same way
                6) Always look for the best place to put the onion to keep it even and looking right
                7) When you have enough onions on clip off all the excess dried foliage
                8) Wallah!! Simple really, looks good, keeps onions well aired
                9) Move to permanent 'nail' in a frost free position

Just done some this morning as it was hissing it dowm outside..quite theraputic really
