  • Too late for winter veg?

Being to new to this malarkey it has only just dawned on me that there is more to winter veg than "greens" (yuk)
So, in a fit of exuberance I have just ordered lots of seeds for overwintering stuff. However,it has just occurred to me (and my visa card) that I may have left it too late......
I have an early and a late PSB, cauli and cabbage that I am now not sure of!!
Any plants would have to wait until my spuds were finished before being planted out anyway - end Aug.
What do you reckon, is worth a go anyway??
    Tx

As you start pulling your spuds pop something in their place, I assume you don't intend pulling all your spuds at the same time do you?, the first are so so lovely as tiddly salad spuds.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

July is the ideal time for sowing spring cabbage and you can even get ball headed as well as pointy varieties these days!

        Hi

I would recommend sowing several every few weeks; this will keep you with veg at different stages throughout the winter. Starting now [or when you've finished your cuppa!]. If you sow it all at once you get it all at once - and then it goes over.

As soon as one spud comes out, put a few of the seedlings in. Then work your way through the spuds planting out seedlings as you go.

          Phew! thank you.
My 1st earlies are almost all up and I am putting leeks in their place (I have 150). I wanted the spring veg to go in the 2nd early and maincrop patch - which won't start to be ready for another couple weeks.
My seeds will arrive in 10 days so I shall get sowing asap.
          Thank you for your help.
          Tx

I must admit I only make two sowings of spring cabbage but I plant them close and use every second plant as spring greens!

There's only so much cabbage one can eat!!!

It's broccoli that we sow most of, and we definitely need it in small batches. Once one is done we need another on the go or we run completely out. As it's the only veg that my OH's daughter will eat, we need a constant supply.
