  • Raised bed??

    Hi
I have a tiny veg patch at the bottom of my garden and am desperate for more space and I have a plan!! My dad is getting rid of his fish pond and it is a 5 feet round solid plastic tub type one, not sure of official term, sorry. So am thinking I could place this tub on a graveled area of my garden and use it as a raised bed.
So basically am asking if this is something that could actually work as an extra space to grow my veg, if so would I be able to treat it as a raised bed and grow anything in it or would I treat it as a very large pot and be more selective as to what I grow in it? Not sure of it`s depth as it was still in the ground last time I saw it! but it has to be at least between 2 and 3 feet deep.
Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

Sounds great. You would have to make sure that it had plenty of drainage holes though. I would have thought that it would be deep enough for most things to grow happily - go to your local garden centre and see what you fancy!!!

Most ponds are graduated depth so you will have to think about how much depth each veg needs. Salad items around the edge as they need very little depth. Wigwam of beans or peas in the middle. Herbs, carrots and beetroot in between and maybe a few strawberry plants.

No idea whether it would work or not. Just wanted to say it's a fantastic idea though! Good luck with it!
