My runners were growing well till about 10 days ago when some of the leaves started looking weird - kind of bubbly with a sort of netted pattern on. It semmed to happen after we had a very windy day and night and I thought it was wind damage ---- but it seems to be spreading. Does anyone know what this is - no obvious signs of pests or eggs etc. Could it be a virus - I've never heard of beans getting a virus?

Hello cazsudz,
I would go with your first thoughts on this and suspect wind damage. Perhaps it seems to be spreading because leaves that weren't as seriously damaged as the first ones to show signs are now beginning feeling the effects of the damage. Runner beans planted on my lottie showed very similar signs of damage after it had been windy. New growth is still good and healthy. If you could post a picture (don't ask me how, I haven't got a clue) some one more knowledgeable than me might be better able to advise. It is the doom of man, that they forget.
