  • potatoes for next year

Hi all, I have just watched this weeks edition of the big dig and one of the guys there had some sarpo pots and he said he was going keep some for planting next year. I also planted sarpo's this year and would like to know how to store some for planting next year, as this is my first year for growing veggies i really would appreciate some advise on this, is it worth doing it this way or would i be better of just getting some new seed pots next season.
    thanks Mark

Hi Mark, Glad you watched the big dig (i did to).
I would'nt recomend storing potatoes as disease can be passed on in the potatoes.
I would just spend the extra few £s, but if you did want to do this leave this years potatoes to die down and then dig the potatoes up, store them in a brown bag and plant again when its time

Hi there. What does everyone recommend regarding next year, when buying seed potatoes - do you buy every type you need in one go and then store them? or do you buy certain varieties at certain times throughout the season? thankx dexterdog

This is something that I have wondered as well so will be interested in the answer. Have not as yet dug any pots as I was given a load of new pots a little while ago! Only being one, takes a little while to get through them!

Can anyone give me advice about suitable potatoes to grpw in a dustbin in the greenhouse to harvest very early nexy year. One of the guys on my allotment had done this and he had a great crop before our earlies were ready.
Also, is it too late to plant a few pots for Christmas. If not - which variety should I be lookingn out for?
